Earlier this week, M CON offshore racing team owner Tyler Miller and his wife, Lindsey, paid a visit to Skater Powerboats in Douglas, Mich., for a cockpit “fitting.” The hull and deck of their new Class 1 Skater 438 catamaran, which will be powered by class-spec Mercury Racing 1100 Comp engines, were joined earlier this month.
“Our main focus was cutting the height and verifying the location of the canopy,” Tyler Miller explained. “When you’re able to choose your preferred height and location it is one of the most important factors in the build.
“Key factors include line of sight so you can read the water—visibility—while keeping in mind you want the strongest and safest cell you can achieve by not cutting openings too large, which leads to strength and stress concerns,” he continued. “And of course, you’re looking at aesthetics, which are the least area of concern—but still always a concern.”
